Greek Oregano

A health-promoting herb of Crete, the worldwide famous Oregano is a spice herb beloved by chefs, gyro-lovers, and now skincare gurus. Oregano has amazing properties for the skin, the scalp, and the hair! It is a powerful antimicrobial agent because it contains an essential compound called “carvacrol”. Also, with its abundant flavonoids and phenolic acids, oregano is a potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory agent.

How to use for your skin:

As a lotion against skin irritations:

Add 1 teaspoon of water (about a cup) and simmer for 3′. Turn off the heat and leave in for 5′ to extract the properties and spicy aroma. Strain in a clean spray container and let it cool. Store in the fridge. Use it as lotion after the shower. Follow up with your hydrating body cream or the skin care balm on troubled skin. Use within a week.

As a DIY anti-dandruff shampoo:

Oregano leaves are reservoirs of essential oil. Using oregano leaf extracts on hair and scalp has shown positive effects in some studies. Grate half a bar of Rosemary-Nettle soap bar into a heat-proof bowl. Boil a tablespoon of oregano leaves in 2 cups of water, set aside for 5′ to soak, and then strain over the grated soap. Leave overnight for the soap to melt. The next day, you can transfer the mixture to a bottle and use it in the shower as shampoo. Shake well before use. Use within a month after making it.
